Mentoring Handbook for 2010-11
The original Glen Rock Mentoring Handbook was created three years ago by the Glen Rock Professional Development Committee to assist novice and mentor teachers with the mentoring process. The handbook was revised, again, this summer and includes some additional helpful suggestions and activities for new teachers and their mentors.

Language Arts 5 Year Program Review Committee Presents Recommendations to the Board of Education
The Glen Rock Office of Curriculum and Instruction formed a committee of teachers and administrators to review the district's programs, curricula and instructional practices pertaining to the teaching and learning of language arts literacy in grades K-12. During the past year, the committee analyzed standardized test results, developed program selection criteria, created teacher and parent surveys, identified other high achieving 'J' districts to visit/survey, and piloted a variety of effective programs and materials. Dr. Kathleen Regan presented on behalf of the Committee specific recommendations for improving student writing to the Board of Education on February 22nd. The Committee's research and recommendations can be viewed by clicking on the below link.

Committee completes Year 2 of the 5 Year Review and Evaluation Process for the Science Program
The district has been reviewing, evaluating, and revising the K-12 Science program over the past two year. A committee was formed to review research, identify best practices, assess test results, pilot current programs, etc. The proposed MS and HS programs will include on-line texts and resources along with more inquiry based, technology infused learning activities for students. The recommendations call for the initiation of a pre-engineering program for MS and HS students to support the recent federal and state STEM initiative (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Collaborative opportunities with universities and research corporations will be explored over the next two years. New curriculum for the K-12 Science Program was developed during the summer using the Rubicon Atlas Curriculum Mapping software. The HS program will be expanded to include courses in Forensics and Genetics. The elementary program will provide students with inquiry based learning opportunties which, again, will infuse technology into the program. A link which provides supplemental learning activities for elementary and MS students can be found below.
