At the June 9 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brett Charleston, and BOE President, Dr. Damali Robinson, recognized Girl Scout Troop #95392, including GRHS seniors, Dylan Mangaroo, Kaitlyn Mennes, Coryn Meyers, Darin Nonas, Sarah Ring, and Isabella Santa Cruz.
These Girl Scouts have been together since the Daisy level in Kindergarten at both Byrd and Coleman Elementary Schools. They all earned the Bronze Award in 5th Grade for their work helping the Glen Rock Dog Park, and Kaitlyn, Coryn, and Isabella earned the Silver Award while at GRMS. Isabella continued on to achieve Gold Award status for her project creating a Sensory Room at Central Elementary School.
They have volunteered hundreds of hours, sold thousands of Girl Scout cookies, and have gone on countless field trips, including many town-wide encampments at Camp Mason and Frost Valley. They’ve planted flowers downtown, raked leaves, run numerous food drives, and supported causes like Oasis' after school program.
Dr. Charleston praised their dedication to service saying, “The idea of service speaks a lot about your character. You'll all be very, very successful in life. Our country is really founded on the idea of civic virtue--giving up oneself for the betterment of the community. Let's give a round of applause for our Girl Scouts."
