The newly formed Glen Rock Mock Trial team competed in the Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition at the Bergen County Justice Center in Hackensack on Jan. 28, Feb. 4, and Feb. 9.
Despite having never competed before, the team advanced to the playoff portion of the competition before a close loss to Pascack Hills. Over the course of the tournament, the team was led by student attorneys, Ada Atli ’27, Tom Druyan ’29, Sia Parekh ’27, and Conor Scala ’29, with Sarah Krasnopolsky ’28, Lila Edwards ’28, Nina Fisher ’28, and Leher Selarka ’27 acting as witnesses. Team members, Selina Feng ‘27 and Zachary Kucharz ’27, served as jurors.
Throughout the competition, Glen Rock students were singled out for special praise from the trial judges, who noted their strong command of the case facts and knowledge of courtroom protocol and decorum. This trial was the culmination of weeks of studying the case files, writing statements, and preparing direct and cross examination of witnesses, completed under the guidance of Dan Paxton, Esq., who grew up in Glen Rock.
