Glen Rock High School is proud to announce and congratulate Class of 2025 Valedictorian, Yeji Kim!

An extraordinary individual who embodies dedication, brilliance, and kindness, Yeji is truly deserving of this. GRHS principal, Ms. Michelle Giurlando, said while Yeji is the kind of person who makes excellence look effortless, her peers and teachers know the opposite is reality.

“Behind every achievement is her unwavering determination, relentless curiosity, and a work ethic that leaves the rest of us in awe,” Ms. Giurlando said. “During her sophomore year at the NJ Science League competition, Yeji spotted and reported an error on the state test—which set her apart from the competition. She is not just a student who excels in science—she is a scientist at heart, approaching every challenge with precision, passion, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.”

Yeji has demonstrated remarkable leadership by founding and leading the Sports Medicine Club and the Computational Linguistics Clubproviding students with opportunities to pursue their interests, engage with guest speakers and experts, and grow as a community. As President of HOSA, she has led with wisdom and warmth, consistently offering support and sharing her knowledge with others. Her peers often look to Yeji for advice and guidance, a testament to the respect and trust she has earned.

Yeji’s academic achievements are exceptional; having her research selected for submission to MIT is a significant honor. Yet what truly sets her apart is her compassion and commitment to making a difference. She pursues knowledge not simply for personal success, but to positively impact the lives of others. Whether volunteering 150+ hours at Valley Hospital or participating in the NJ Medical School SMART Program, Yeji is already leaving her mark on the medical community.

Yeji has a rare gift for bringing lightness to serious situations, lifting others with laughter when they need it most, and reminding everyone to find joy in the journey. “What makes her success even more remarkable is the resilience behind it,” continued Ms. Giurlando. “Moving to the U.S. from Korea just four years ago, Yeji had to acclimate to a new culture and language. She graciously and flawlessly proved that no obstacle is too great for a determined mind and a passionate heart.”

Yeji plans to pursue a major in molecular biology/biochemistry as a pre-med student. As she takes the next step in her journey, there is no doubt that she will continue to inspire, lead, and make a lasting difference in the world.
