Throughout the month of April, Coleman Elementary School participated in “Tuesdays in April,” where several teachers hosted a weekly read aloud and students were challenged with different ways of including others. Books shared during the read alouds celebrated ways that make us different and unique. Classes were then provided follow up activities and discussion questions to further promote inclusivity.
This read aloud was the book, “Different Just Like Me.” In this book, the main character meets different people throughout the week. She says, “Like the flowers in Grammie’s garden, they were all different from one another, and that’s what made them so great. I’m glad everyone is different… just like me!”
Each student then made their own flower for our own garden. What makes the garden beautiful is that each flower is different and unique, just like the students at Coleman!
