GRMS Veterans Day

GRMS Veterans Day Assembly
Posted on 11/12/2025

On November 12, 2025, Glen Rock Middle School students attended a special assembly in honor of Veterans Day. The event, led by the Students for Service club and co-hosted by Glen Rock High School students, Connor Bratspies ’26 and Phoebe Martin ’27, featured a slideshow presentation and a Q&A with nine members of Glen Rock VFW Post 850 including Dave Silberstein, Bob Steinberg, Phil Caffrey, Ken Frank, Kevin Finn, Rich Petersson, Jim Garofalo, Russ Campbell, and Bob Howard.

Students first presented an informative slideshow highlighting the significance of Veterans Day and honoring Glen Rock residents who served during WWI. Students explained how Veterans Day was first observed in November 1919, marking the first anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns fell silent, bringing peace after a devastating conflict. More than 116,000 Americans gave their lives during the war, including five from Glen Rock. In fact, residents of the borough have served in every U.S. armed conflict dating back to the Revolutionary War.

Reflecting on the sacrifices of veterans, President Ronald Reagan once said, “Veterans know better than anyone else the price of freedom, for they have suffered the scars of war. We can offer them no better tribute than to protect what they have won for us.”

The GRPS community deeply appreciates the service of all veterans and is especially grateful to our Glen Rock veterans for sharing their experiences in the armed forces. Thank you for your dedication and service!
