Glen Rock High School has named Jay Kreibich the Class of 2026 Salutatorian in recognition of his exceptional academic performance, leadership, and commitment to service throughout his high school career. He stands among the most ambitious and accomplished students to pass through the halls of GRHS.
Known for his warm smile, positive attitude, gracious presence, and a readiness to engage fully with others, Jay has earned the respect of peers, teachers, and mentors alike. He stands among the most ambitious and accomplished students to pass through the halls of GRHS.
One of the most notable aspects of Jay’s high school experience has been his sustained commitment to scientific research. Through a multi-year internship at the Hackensack Center for Discovery and Innovation, Jay conducted significant work in colon cancer research. In addition to mastering complex scientific concepts, he demonstrated exceptional communication skills by independently developing a faculty presentation on the early warning signs of colon cancer. Faculty and staff members praised the maturity and professionalism he displayed throughout the experience, a clear indicator that his future contributions will be both meaningful and far-reaching.
At Glen Rock High School, Jay pursued one of the school’s most rigorous academic programs, completing 14 Advanced Placement courses in addition to nine advanced and honors classes. Outside the classroom, he has remained actively involved in the school community through Cross Country, Tennis, and various clubs. As a mentor to younger athletes, he generously shared his knowledge and supported their growth on the track and on the court. His leadership extends to the Debate Team, where he capably facilitated Public Forum Debate Club meetings, and to the Students for Service Club, where he played a key role in organizing numerous service initiatives. Mentors consistently describe him as a model of excellence both academically and personally.
Jay said he was surprised when he learned he had been named Salutatorian, but felt that his hard work had paid off. He added that he was especially grateful for the support of his family and friends throughout his journey. “I want to thank my brother Neil, both my parents, especially my mom, and my friends for their support,” he shared.
When asked how he defines accomplishment beyond academics, Jay emphasized the importance of impact and balance. “I would say making an impact in your community and leaving your own mark,” he shared. “I think it’s important to be a person outside of just schoolwork and make time to have fun and explore your own hobbies.”
Among his proudest achievements during high school was his colorectal cancer research and the community outreach efforts that followed. “I’m most proud of my colorectal cancer research and how I translated it into two community events I hosted with the school to raise awareness about colorectal cancer,” Jay said. “Through those experiences, I learned a lot about potential career paths I may want to pursue, as well as valuable life skills from organizing and running the events.”
Reflecting on his time at GRHS, Jay said some of his favorite memories came not from one specific moment, but from fully enjoying the broader high school experience. “Overall, it’s my ability to genuinely enjoy my time in high school,” he said. “Going out with friends and having fun is something that I think is often overlooked, especially when people are striving for academic achievement, but it’s an important part of the experience.”
This fall, Jay will attend University of Pennsylvania, where he plans to study Economics with a minor in Healthcare Management. “I’m looking to branch out from my mostly STEM background in high school and find intersections between science and finance,” he said. “I’m excited to be around driven people and look forward to meeting others with similar passions.”
Jay was recognized at the 4.20.26 Glen Rock Board of Education meeting by, left to right, Mr. Gregory Van Nest, Acting Superintendent of Schools; Ms. Michelle Giurlando, GRMS/HS Principal; and Dr. Damali Robinson, GRBOE President. As he prepares for this next chapter, Jay leaves behind a lasting impact on the Glen Rock High School community and serves as an outstanding example of what it means to be a Glen Rock Panther. Congratulations to Jay Kreibich, Glen Rock High School Class of 2026 Salutatorian!
