amber wang valedictorian at BOE meeting

Glen Rock High School proudly announces Amber Wang as the Class of 2026 Valedictorian, recognizing her exceptional academic achievements, service, and commitment to excellence both inside and outside the classroom.

Throughout her time at Glen Rock High School, Amber has distinguished herself through academic excellence, initiative, and a deep commitment to learning. Teachers describe her as a highly motivated and intellectually curious student whose unwavering consistency, strong work ethic, exemplary attendance, and natural leadership have made a lasting impact in the classroom. Known for her thoughtful participation and collaborative spirit, Amber has helped foster an engaging environment while inspiring peers through both her example and encouragement.

Beyond academics, Amber has demonstrated a profound commitment to service and community engagement. As co-founder of Arts for All, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the mental well-being of hospital communities through artistic expression, she has created meaningful opportunities for connection and compassion. For the past five years, she has also volunteered at New Bridge Medical Center, supporting long-term care patients and helping tend to both their daily and emotional needs.

Amber’s passion for science has shaped much of her high school journey. As co-president of Science Rocks, she has shared her enthusiasm with younger students by designing and leading hands-on experiments that spark curiosity and excitement. In addition to her academic and service accomplishments, Amber has been a dedicated student-athlete throughout high school. A member of both the cross-country and track teams since freshman year at GRHS, she has served as co-captain of the cross-country team for the past two years. She views running as both a source of personal growth and an important part of maintaining balance and well-being.

Reflecting on being named Valedictorian, Amber shared that she was both proud and happy. “I was proud that the effort I have put in over the past four years of high school was recognized through this title,” she said. “I also know that my classmates are incredibly talented, so being named a top student among them means a great deal to me.” She added that the honor represents much more than academic standing. “To me, being Valedictorian represents the consistency and discipline I’ve built in the past four years, skills I’ll carry with me in college and beyond,” she said. “It reflects all the late nights studying and the commitment I had to continue excelling in all my classes, even when the material was challenging. Additionally, I think this title represents my love for learning and the endless support I’ve received from my friends, family, and teachers.”

Among her favorite memories at Glen Rock High School was a hands-on project following the AP Physics 1 exam. “We got to design, build, and test our own model rockets, and it was incredible to see the variety of wing shapes and designs my classmates came up with,” she said. “Watching the rockets launch and seeing the kinematics equations we learned in class come to life made the experience especially memorable.”

When asked how her friends would describe her, Amber responded: “Supportive, passionate, and joyful.” She also expressed how she hopes to be remembered after graduation: “I hope that people remember that I was hardworking and supportive and someone who was always willing to help and collaborate with others.” For underclassmen hoping to follow a similar path, Amber urges them to always go beyond what is asked of them. “Take the time to find additional practice problems, work to understand the material beyond what is taught in class, and ask questions that both expand and challenge your understanding of the subject.”

This fall, Amber will attend Vanderbilt University, where she plans to major in Medicine, Health, and Society on the pre-med track. She hopes to pursue a career in healthcare, potentially complemented by a double major in mathematics. “I have always been interested in the healthcare field throughout high school and especially enjoyed my physics, biology, chemistry, and calculus classes,” Amber said. “I am excited to continue furthering my knowledge in these fields and also take advantage of the unique research and service opportunities available at Cornell.”

Amber expressed gratitude to those who supported her throughout her journey. “I have many people to thank, as I would not be where I am today without their support,” she said. “First, my family has provided me with unconditional encouragement throughout my four years of high school, especially my dad, who has a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and was always willing to answer my questions and discuss physics and chemistry with me. Additionally, my friends have been a constant source of advice and support, and I could not have asked for better people to spend late nights studying, working on group projects, and enjoying time both in and outside of school. Lastly, I am grateful for my teachers, who made learning truly enjoyable and had a lasting impact on how I study, learn, and engage with material, shaping how I will continue to pursue my academics in college and beyond.”

Amber was recognized at the 4.20.26 Glen Rock Board of Education meeting by, left to right, Mr. Gregory Van Nest, Acting Superintendent of Schools; Ms. Michelle Giurlando, GRMS/HS Principal; and Dr. Damali Robinson, GRBOE President. With her boundless curiosity and steadfast determination, Amber is poised to continue achieving at the highest level in all of her future endeavors. Congratulations to Amber Wang, Glen Rock High School Class of 2026 Valedictorian!
